Dorothy Fizzell Boone's Obituary
Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, Dorothy Boone passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. She will always be remembered for her love of family, sincerity in friendship, and service to community. Dot (Grandot to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren) lived her full life with joy and a spark known by all she touched. Born on September 19, 1921 in Kansas City, MO to Robert Bruce Fizzell Sr. and Florence Hoover Fizzell, Dot attended Connecticut College for Women and graduated with a degree in Nutrition from University of Kansas, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1945 she married the love of her life, Oliver Kiel Boone. They settled in Dallas in 1946, and this Missouri-bred girl became a lifelong Texan. Dot was a long-time member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, where she served in various leadership positions. She was a member of The Assistance League of Dallas, Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Association, The Dallas Woman’s Club, The Dallas Garden Club and The Craig Class. Her commitment to The Standard Club gave her such pleasure during the last 15 years. In addition to The Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary, she was a member of The Texas Lawyers Auxiliary. She was an avid bridge player, and the many bridge clubs she belonged to gave her such delight. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Oliver Kiel Boone. Dot is survived by her three loving children, Kathy Boone Collins and her husband Ron, Tom Boone and his wife Cordelia, Cindy Boone Irey and her husband Randy; grandchildren, Erin Irey Jennings and husband Brian, Galen Mason, Ben Irey, Parker Collins, Delia Boone Robinson and her husband Adam, Cynthia Collins Paneitz and her husband Joe, Dorothy Boone Wofford and her husband Trey, Peter Irey and his wife Holly, Mary Florence Boone, Elizabeth Boone, and Robert Boone knew and loved her as Grandot. Her seven great grandchildren: Brock, Kate, Oliver, Warren, Maizy, Will, and Johnny adored her. A memorial service will be on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Missions of United Methodist Women (UMW), HPUMC, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, 75205 or to the charity of your choice.
