Dorothy Ross Chapman's Obituary
Dorothy Ross Chapman, 81, recently of Nashville, Tennessee, was called home to our Lord on the morning of May 10, 2024. Dorothy had been in hospice for her congestive heart failure and had more recently suffered a massive stroke. She was surrounded by her son, daughter, son-in-law, and her daughter in love, the days/nights before her death.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers Fred Ross, Boyd Ross and his wife Charlene, and sister Marth Zona and her husband Al; daughter Margaret Morris and her husband Gregory, son Matthew Foster and his wife Ellia, son Raymond Foster and his wife Beth, son Augustus “Chip” Foster and his wife Debbie, and her “daughter in love” Gabrille Howell. Dorothy was also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren: Joel Foster and his wife Diana and their daughter Ellia; Ben Foster and his wife Rachel and their son Theodore; Nate Foster and his wife Mali; Paul Foster and his wife Stephanie and their daughter Ryan; Alexander Foster and his son Leo, Drake Foster and his wife Deanna, Brooke Foster Gordon and her husband Sean, and her son Reese Foster; Brandon Foster, and Anali Foster.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Talyor Ross and “Tena” Tennessee Napier; husband Frank Halbert “Hal” Chapman Jr., Brothers Dave Ross, Harvey Ross, Tillis Ross, sisters Bessy Ross, and Virginia Mae Ross; grandchildren Arin Maddison Morris, Christy Morris, Ann Tennessee Morris, and great grandson James Gordon.
Dorothy was born in Kenova West Virginia on July 7th 1943. She was the youngest of 9 children to Taylor and Tena Ross. Dorothy spent her childhood in West Virginia and Ohio, then moved to Texas in 1966 where she married the love of her life, Hal Chapman. They raised her sons together, and 5 years later their daughter was born. Dorothy was active with her family in church, little league, Pop Warner football, Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts, and Pop Warner cheerleading. When the kids were older, she and her husband bought a boat and served many years as volunteer Coat Guard Auxiliary for Lake Lewisville, where they met many friends. Later she joined the ladies club of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, lodge #71, where her husband served as Elk of the Year 1996.
In her later years, Dorothy moved to Nashville Tennessee to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Visitation is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM on June 5th at Restland Memorial Chapel located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243. The funeral service will commence at 10 AM the same day and location.
