Dorothy (Dottie) Marie Scott's Obituary
Dorothy (Dottie) Marie Scott, age 72, passed away on October 10th, 2023, in Plano. Texas. Dottie was born February 24th, 1951, to Elizabeth Noe and George Flaherty in Pittsburg, PA.
After graduating from high school in 1969, at the age of 18 she joined the Navy to continue her education and Honorably Discharged in 1971 in Newport, RI. She moved to Baton Rouge, LA, and attended LSU where she studied while raising her first born son, Richard. She moved to Dallas in 1977 where she worked at Marshall Industries and met her husband, Brad Scott. A phone call led to a blind date that ended with an astonishing 40 years of marriage and 4 years of dating between the two of them. They bought a house in Garland, Texas in 1982 and married in 1983 at the City of Garland courthouse. In 1989, Dottie and Brad had a miracle happen, after many failed tries, their daughter Ashley was born.
She was a devoted teacher at Spring Creek Elementary for 18 years until retiring in December of 2015. She loved education and even more importantly loved to help children succeed. You would find Dottie every morning with coffee sitting on the back patio just looking out at back yard with the fish pond and fountain and the all the trees. That was her favorite seat in the world. She also liked to go to the casinos and those penny slot machines. She also enjoyed cruises and any vacation that she could take with her family was the only place she wanted to go. Dottie was very devoted to her family. Dottie also loved to read, especially mystery novels and got into adult coloring later on in life.
Dottie was a Wife, a Mother, a Mimi, a Sister, and an Aunt. She was full of devotion, courage, knowledge, strength, and compassion. She was selfless and loved unconditionally and will be missed beyond measure.
Dottie is survived by her husband Brad Scott, her son Richard Woodiel, her daughter Ashley Scott, her grandchildren Noah Woodiel and Landon Sarr, and her siblings George Long, Judy Rizzo, and Blaine Long.
Services will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Saturday, 28 October between Noon and Four pm. This will be an informal ceremony and come and go as you please, there will be food and drinks available.
