Dorothy Gale Dunn's Obituary
Dorothy Gale Dunn of Arlington, Texas was born on January 17, 1952 and passed away July 6, 2017, at the age of 65. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gale and Adele Dunn. She is survived by her partner, Cindy Rau; her brother Richard Dunn and his wife DeRema; niece Denel Comley and her husband Paul, and their children Zachary Prater and Christina Comley; niece Dannah Rogers and her sons, Camden and Cason Rogers; and nephew Derek Dunn, all of Sunnyvale, Texas; sister-in-law Cheryl Stanley and niece Katharine of Conway, Arkansas; brother-in-law Jeff Rau and wife Carra and their son Eric of Euless, Texas, and Cindy’s parents Larry and Grace Rau of Euless, Texas. She is also survived by numerous dear friends. Dorothy Gale was born January 17, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Gale and Adele Dunn. She grew up in Richardson, Texas and graduated from J. J. Pearce High School. She graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor with a B. A. in Education. She later received a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. Dorothy Gale loved children, and was Director and owner of Children’s Place in Dallas, and Creative Learning Center in Arlington. Following that, she worked with Volunteers of America, teaching parenting classes. She completed her career as the Guidance Counselor at W. M. Greene Elementary in Fort Worth. Dorothy Gale had a long struggle with diabetes and complications of diabetes. She received dialysis for many years before receiving a kidney transplant. Following that procedure, it was discovered that she needed heart valve replacement. She received that a year ago, and was hospitalized again in June 2017 due to complications of the heart. On Monday, July 3, she had heart surgery. She survived the surgery, but did not regain consciousness after the surgery. She passed quietly on July 6th in ICU at Baylor, surrounded by family and friends. In advance of her death, Dorothy Gale left instructions that her passing was not to be mourned, but to be a celebration of life. She treasured life, and time spent with family and friends. The service of celebration for Dorothy Dunn will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Celebration Community Church, 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Kidney Fund, or Celebration Community Church Rev. Carol West Community Center.
