Dorothy Juanita Haas' Obituary
Dorothy Juanita Haas, 94, of Wylie, Texas passed peacefully in her home on November 13th, 2024.
Born on November 10th, 1930 to Edward Dewey Turman and Lottie Dewvall in Franklin, Texas - Dorothy was one of twelve children growing up on farm in rural Texas during the Great Depression - her spirit of survival and resilience that was instilled in her at a young age carried her throughout her life.
Dorothy's early years were marked by the hardships of the era, but she faced them with grace and determination. These experiences shaped her into a woman of incredible fortitude, who always found a way to provide for her family and instill in them the values of hard work and perseverance.
As one of twelve children, Dorothy learned early on the importance of creating unique and special relationships with everyone she met. She was a mother to all, offering her warmth, humor, and wisdom generously. Her home was an open door for family or friends, a place of laughter and openness.
She met the love of her life, Karl Wilhelm Haas Sr, while running a charming coffee shop at the Adolphus Hotel where he worked as her boss, and chef. Their shared passion for cooking, humor, and business, made them a perfect pair, and they married on July 10th, 1964. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of delicious food for over 60 years.
Dorothy’s journey through life was marked by her incredible ability to bring people together. Holidays and family gatherings at Dorothy and Karl’s home were legendary, with friends and family always welcome. The table was never short of a bountiful spread, reflecting their joy in sharing their culinary talents. Dorothy’s legacy is one of love, community, and the countless memories she created for those fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her generous heart, witty humor, and the vibrant gatherings that brought such joy to so many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Karl Wilhelm Haas Sr; her son, Marvin Schmidt; her daughter, Linda Boyd; and her siblings, Audrey Southern, Lillian Wilson, Billy Gene Turman, Marion Turman, Jerry Turman, Louis Turman, Red Turman, David Turman, Ernest Lee Turman, and Thelbert Turman.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Maza; her son, Karl Wilhelm Haas Jr; her son, Robert Schmidt and wife Paula; her daughter-in-law, Wanda Schmidt; her grandchildren, Rick Boyd, Vicki Boyd, Erick Schmidt, Christopher Schmidt, Tara Schmidt, and Robin Schmidt; her great-grandchildren, Trevor Martinez, Amanda Schmidt, Justin Schmidt, Mackenzie Schmidt, Allen Williams, Brooke Douglas, and Charles Douglas; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at Restland Funeral Home's Wildwood Chapel on November 19th , 2024. Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with services and a graveside to follow.
