Dorothy Page Harvey's Obituary
Born in Lometa, TX on January 7, 1923, to Leo and Jewell Stockton Page, Dorothy Page Harvey went to be with her Lord on November 21, 2023. In her 100 years and 10 months on this earth she shared her faith, love, and kindness to all. She married Omar Harvey in 1940 after he paid a stranger $15 to swear that she was 18 years old. Omar and Dorothy had two daughters, Martha Harvey Payne Shaw, and Carol Harvey Alexander Ellis.
Dorothy taught the 3-year-olds for many years at Park Cities Baptist Church where she and Omar were active members since 1962. She was President of the Delta Gamma Mother’s Club. She received The Paul Harris Award as a member of Women of Rotary. She enjoyed her friends in the Antique Appreciation Study Club. Dorothy enjoyed bridge, Rummy Z, shopping, entertaining friends, church activities and especially flying a kite in 3” heels and suit when she attended the Texas Sesquicentennial meetings.
Dorothy and Omar traveled the world during their 79-year marriage but were but were most content when putting their grandchildren in the motor coach and taking cross country trips.
Dorothy never met a stranger. She sat talking to an elderly woman on a bench at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London until she realized the woman was made of wax. On one trip to Rome, she ran across the lobby because she was certain she had seen a high school friend. We had to agree that she indeed recognized him, but we were pretty sure that David Niven did not graduate from Lometa High School! At times she could rival the comedy of Lucille Ball and she left us with a smile and a heart full of love.
Dorothy is survived by daughter Marlee Payne Shaw and husband George Fletcher, Carol Harvey Ellis and husband Michael, and brother James R. “Jim” Page. She had six grandchildren: Greg Payne, wife Robyn and their children Brandon, Reid, and Ryder; Alysha Carol Godfrey, husband Ben and their children Abigale, Emily, Grace, Lilly, Rebecca and husband Levi; David Payne, wife Heather and their children Gilbert and Calum; Robert Omar Alexander; Meredith Alexander Torcasi, husband Sean and their children Maren, Coen, Miles and Nora; Brooke Alexander Chambers, husband Matthew and their daughter Caroline; Lauren Fletcher and her daughters, Alice and Juniper Jane.
Dorothy had many nieces and nephews that loved their Aunt Dodo including Katherine Page Oholendt, her husband Mark and family, Sharon Page Dorris, husband Steve and family; Patricia Page Murphy, husband Tom and family; Sean Page and wife Mary; Clay Page, wife Laura and family; and Stephen Wayne Thornton.
The entire family gives credit to Dorothy’s long life to hubby Omar who spoiled her rotten and her friend, companion and 24/7 caregiver, Roseanne Armendariz, the spoiler extraordinaire! Our sincere thanks to the unbelievably attentive, caring team at Legends Hospice, especially nurse Jonathan and the many aides and volunteers as well as Dr. Michael Isaac and the Baylor Heart Hospital team.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested that donations be made to Smile Train or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her honor.
