Dorothy Alice Holley's Obituary
Dorothy Alice Lester Holley died peacefully at her home on the morning of April 11, 2012 at the age of 83. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Oscar M. Holley, as well as a sister, four children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister. Dorothy was raised in Dallas, Texas where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. During her life she devoted her considerable talents to church activities and raising her children. Dorothy’s children were a central preoccupation of her life. Her delight in their activities is clearly revealed in the photos displayed in her home and the memorabilia she carefully tucked away. She never tired of sharing her pride in their accomplishments. Her son David is chairman of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Her daughter Cindy of Denton, Texas is recently retired from 36 years of teaching high school math and coaching academic teams. Her daughter Pam of McKinney, Texas has worked in public school teaching and counseling for the last 35 years. Her son Daniel of Heath, Texas was an Air Force pilot and is currently a Senior Vice President for Sunamerica Financial. All of her family members recognize how instrumental she has been in their own achievements. Dorothy emphasized education for her children. She taught each of her four children to read before they entered school and enjoyed helping them with homework, especially with activities that involved writing. They owe her a debt of gratitude. She will be missed. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Restland Memorial Cemetery in the Wildwood Chapel. On Friday, April 13, 2012.
