Dorothy Lunell Kirk's Obituary
KIRK, DOROTHY LUNELL was born February 23rd, 1922, the fourth of seven children, born to Texas pioneers Thomas and Nancy Looney, who homesteaded near Malakoff, Texas. She graduated from Athens High School and relocated to Dallas in 1940 to work as a housekeeper until her marriage to Loyd Kirk on April 24, 1944. They shared sixty four years of marriage. A self taught office administrator, Dorothy had superior proficiency in shorthand, typing and the operational knowledge of most office automation systems. She was a volunteer for the March of Dimes, Axe Methodist Church in Garland and Scottish Rite Hospital. She retired in 1988 from a successful career with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Employment Standards and Compliance, where she worked for over twenty years. Previous to her career with the Department of Labor, she worked for the Texas Department of Labor, Anderson Clayton Foods and the Phelps Dodge Corporation. Having lived in the Dallas area for fifty years, she lived the last ten months with her husband at The Meadows Assisted Living Center. In addition to her husband Loyd, she is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Darlene Kirk of Dallas and Jack and Joan Kirk of Greenwood Village, Colorado. She leaves four granddaughters and two grandsons and one great grandson. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday, February 15, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at Restland Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave., Richardson Texas at 12:30pm, Saturday, February 16, 2008, with private interment at Restland Memorial Park to follow.
