Dorothy Ruth Martin Bowles' Obituary
Dorothy Ruth Martin Bowles, October 16, 1924-November 12, 2019 Dorothy was a Dallas native and a proud Texan. Always gracious and unflappable, she had an equanimity and strength that served her well throughout her entire life. She was a constant support to her family and friends who loved and adored her.Dorothy grew up in Oak Cliff where she attended high school at Our Lady of Good Counsel. After two years at Columbia Christian College in Missouri, she received a B. S. degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where she met Walter Brown Bowles. They wed in 1949, settled in Oak Cliff and remained married until Walter’s death in 2005. Dorothy was a devoted mother who always made time for her family while enjoying a busy social life and serving in the community. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and coordinated the volunteers at Methodist Hospital for many years as a “Candy Striper.”Dorothy kept her large circle of friends close as they played bridge, traveled and celebrated birthdays, holidays, weddings and the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Dorothy was devoted to her family first and foremost, and they were inspired by her kindness, compassion and grace. She is survived by her son, Martin Brown Bowles and his wife Terri; daughter Anne Bowles Spradley and her husband Charley; grandchildren Allison Bowles Davidson and her husband Kevin; Walter Bowles Spradley and Martin Webb Spradley; and great-grandchild Franklin Davidson. She was preceded in death by her parents, K.T. Martin and Mable Craig Martin and her brother K.T. Martin, Jr.A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, November 18 at 11:00 am in the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, 75243.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the C.C. Young Benevolence Fund, 4847 West Lawther Drive, Suite 100, Dallas Texas 75214.
