Dorothy Alice Rampy's Obituary
Dorothy Alice Rampy passed away in the late morning of December 20, 2010 from complications of advanced Alzheimer disease. She was 84 years old. She was born Dorothy Alice Norvill on March 26, 1926, the younger of two children of Robert Earnest and Verna Edna Norvill in Ardmore, Oklahoma. As a child, she enjoyed school and associated activities, such as serving as captain for the Ardmore High School volleyball team. Growing up, Dorothy always emulated her brother, Robert Vernon Norvill, who in addition to acting a best friend, served as a mentor for education and a deep-seated drive to succeed. In 1955, she was awarded Outstanding President of the Year for service in the Wichita Falls, Texas Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, an organization aimed to foster a community of social, cultural and educational interests. She acquired initial business experience in the oil and gas industry through a position at the Fain and McGaha Oil Company. Following her marriage to William Clarence Rampy, Dorothy and family relocated to Dallas, Texas. Over the next 40 years she was employed by several independent and international oil companies and gained a reputation for being at the top of her field of expertise in Land Management. Along the way, she became formally recognized as a Certified Petroleum Landman and Division Order Analyst. Her work was not the foremost of Dorothy’s interests, she placed the most emphasis on the roles of outstanding wife, mother and extended her love and care to many others… family, friends and strangers. She put forth efforts tirelessly toward such tasks as helping support school activities for her son, Alan and granddaughter, Erin. Also, when not caring directly for family, or extended family, Dorothy volunteered for many years in child care for her church, White Rock Methodist of Dallas. Dorothy A. Rampy is survived by her son Bill Alan Rampy and husband William Clarence Rampy of Clear Lake City, TX, her granddaughter Erin Manon Rampy also of Clear Lake City, as well as two nieces, Carrie Lee Hargraves and Sara Allis Amos and one nephew, Robert Blake Norvill. The funeral service will be held at 10 am, Monday, December 27, 2010 at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, Dallas TX.
