Dorothy Jean Reed's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Haynes Reed, 87, died Wednesday June 17, 2015 in Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends on Saturday June 20, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. Dorothy was born to Floyd B. and Alda May Mitchell Haynes on August 27, 1927 in Charlotte, Texas. She graduated from Talco High School and attended Paris Junior College majoring in music. She married Max Lee Reed in 1945 in Talco, Texas. They had two sons and a daughter. They lived in Andrews, Texas for most of their married life until Max’s death in 1998. Dorothy later moved to Breckenridge, Texas and then to Dallas to be near family. In Andrews, she worked in nursing at Permian General Hospital and as the office nurse for Dr. Jariwala at Community Hospital for many years. She also taught piano. Dorothy sang and played saxophone as well, and she and her sister Louise enjoyed performing as a duet at various events. She was a Baptist and taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir in Andrews and later in the Breckenridge church choir. She loved her family, Texas, and the mountains of New Mexico. She was a loving wife and mother, known for her sense of humor, friendliness, and her generous spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband Max, her parents, and her sister Louise Dyer. She is survived by her sons, Steve and wife Marilyn; Floyd and wife Janet; and daughter Cynthia and husband Steve Welsch; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two sisters: Jonell Fuller of Breckenridge and Linda Douglas and husband Cecil of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, and many friends. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Breckenridge where her ashes will be interred with those of her husband. Dorothy’s family will receive friends from 1:00-4:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home.
