Dorothy C. Roberts' Obituary
Dorothy “Dotty” Roberts of Richardson, TX, passed away on July 25, 2009 after battling cancer. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt & friend, she will be missed by all who knew her. Dorothy was born & raised in St. Louis, MO. She met her future husband & love of her life, Clarke, in high school but they did not marry until Clarke returned from serving in WWII. Prior to their 1946 marriage, she worked as a secretary for Monsanto in St. Louis. Dorothy supported Clarke working as a secretary on campus while he finished college at Texas A&M after the war. She loved reading and travel, and in more recent years, enjoyed participating in activities with her fellow Red Hat Ladies. Dorothy was a smart, fiercely independent, strong & stoic woman who would do anything for those in need. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarke, her parents James Verner and Otilla Cockrum. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Roberts, MD and husband Richard Beadle, DDS; grandchildren, Andrew and Erica; daughter, Jan Gifford and husband Tim; brother, Robert Cockrum and wife Mickey, as well as their children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank all those involved in Dorothy’s VNA hospice care and especially her close friends Betty & Charlene who helped take such good care of her during her last weeks. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Visiting Nurses Association, hospice care or the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held in Dorothy’s honor at 7:00 pm, Friday, July 31, 2009 in Restland’s Memorial Chapel.
