Dorothy I. Rooker's Obituary
Dorothy I. Rooker went peacefully to be with the Lord, Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, after a lingering battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born Feb. 18, 1922 to Ira Dell and Delcy Wilson Ivy. She grew up in Dallas, graduated from North Dallas H.S. and attended SMU. She married the late George S. Rooker on Oct. 17, 1942. They moved to Richardson in 1952 where they became active members of First United Methodist Church. They raised their four sons in Richardson where they had many wonderful memories, especially at athletic events. Dorothy was an avid reader, an animated book reviewer, speaker, and creative writer. When her sons were older, Dorothy became a frequent traveler to Europe, Israel and Hawaii. She lived a happy, blessed life. She is survived by sons Paul G. Rooker (Orleans, MA), Andrew D. and Jane Rooker (Dallas), Mark and Carole Rooker (Wake Forest, NC) and David and Karen Rooker (Dallas). Also survived by grandchildren; Kari and Donald Rector, Drew and Monica Rooker, Scott and Christina Rooker, Tyler and Jasmine Rooker, Amy Rooker, Griffin Rooker, Mark and Meredith Rooker, Lauren Rooker, Daniel Rooker, Nathaniel Rooker, Jonathan Rooker, and Josh Rooker, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Phillip Sharp (Springfield, MO). A celebration of life for Dorothy Rooker will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 N. Central. A visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Monday, November 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Richardson or the Dallas Alzheimer’s Association.
