Dorothy Lillian Rystad's Obituary
RYSTAD, DOROTHY LILLIAN LEAN “DOT age 97, of Richardson Texas, died peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2013. Dorothy was born October 9, 1915 in Sioux City, Iowa. Her parents were Frank and Marie Lean. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Morningside College. In 1937, after graduation, she taught Junior and Senior high school English, Drama & Speech at Rembrandt, Iowa. She married Milton E. Rystad of Rembrandt, Iowa on August 15, 1940. The family moved to Storm Lake, Iowa in 1952. She served as an officer in many women’s organizations. She enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, baking, playing bridge, also loved to hunt, fish and golf with her husband and girls. She loved company and guests received a warm welcome. She was a long time member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Richardson, Texas. There she participated in Activity Day, helping to make quilts, etc. She also sang in the choir for several years. Dorothy moved permanently to Richardson, Texas in 2003 to be near her family. She was a devoted mother and wife. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Bragg of Richardson, Texas, daughter, Jean Nelson and her husband Doug of Dallas. She was also survived by adoring grandchildren, Daniel Ladeairous and wife Lauren of Clovis, Ca, Kelly Jo Tullberg of Colorado Springs, Co., Jackie Oates and husband Tyler of Peyton, Co., Angela Sobol and husband Matt of Melissa, Texas, and Robby Davenport of Richardson, Texas. She had 7 beloved great grandchildren. She also had a host of nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Dorothy and Milton were married for 60 wonderful years. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Richardson, Texas on Saturday January 26, 2013 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to St. Luke’s Music Department. There will be a private burial at a later date near Rembrandt, Iowa, where she will be laid to rest with her late husband.
