Dorothy W. Wicker's Obituary
WICKER, DOROTHY (DOTTY) WHITE was born on July 26, 1923 in Bonita, Louisiana. She grew up in Monroe, Louisiana. Dotty graduated from Abbot Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. She attended Sophie Newcombe College in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. In 1944, she married First LT. Ed Wicker. After World War II, they moved to Dallas, Texas where their four children grew up. They are: Ed Jr. of Orange County, California; Rob and Roger of Dallas, Texas; and Mary Wynne Eisenberg of Baltimore, Maryland. She is the proud grandmother of Ryan Wicker of Houston, Texas; Lydia Russell of Dallas, Texas; and Anna and Wick Eisenberg of Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by one brother, Nick White of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a sister, Polly Durham of Hammond, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Karin White of Centreville, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. Until she experienced recent health issues, Dotty was active in the following organizations: the Highland Park United Methodist Church – Cox Chapel Service; the United Methodist Women; the Dallas Country Club; the Dallas Woman’s Club; the Dallas Garden Club; the SOS Investment Club; the Methodist Missions Programs; Dallas Museum of Art; Dallas Symphony Orchestra; and Meaders Art Museum. Her favorite pastimes included assuming the role of pied piper for gatherings of neighborhood children for afternoon tea parties. Additional hobbies included antiquing, needlework, reading, keeping abreast of politics, and decorating her home for each holiday season. Halloween evenings found her sitting on her front porch dressed in witch’s attire and handing out a variety of Halloween treats.
