Dorris Felice Strange's Obituary
Long time Dallas native, Dorris M. Strange died April 28, 2009 of cause’s incident to age. She was 94 years old and was a resident of the Summerville @ Lakeland Hill Retirement Center. Dorris was born to Alexander and Cliffie Foster Miller September 17, 1914 in Dallas, Texas. She married John Ervin Strange April 26, 1957. He died in October 1993. Dorris spent her entire life in Dallas County with the exception of three years during World War II when she was a civilian employee with the US Navy in Washington DC. While in Washington she served with the American Red Cross as a volunteer driver. After the War she worked for the Management Services Company of the Mercantile Bank and the Merchant Building Management Office. Before WWII she worked for Gibbs Beauty Supply Co and Sears Roebuck Co. She started attending East Grand Avenue Baptist Church when she was 7 years old. Later she became a member of East Grand and its successor Grand View Baptist Church until her death. She served in many positions in the church. She was a member of the Readmore Book Review Club and AARP. She attended Orem M Roberts Elementary School and was the first 4 year class at Woodrow Wilson High School (1928 – 1932). For many years Dorris and John had a lake house at Lake Tawokoni. They had many friends and happy years at the lake. They also enjoyed traveling by car and on cruises. Dorris is survived by her brother, Clifford A Miller (Sally) of Ogden, Utah. Stepson, John E Strange Jr.(Juanita) of Venus Texas; nieces Camille A. Miller of Seattle, WA; Karen M. Smith, Spring NV; Granddaughters Susan A. Montgomery and Kathy L. Roberts. Two Great-Granddaughters, two Great-Grandsons and two great-great granddaughters. The family is greatly indebted to Becky Jobe who has been Dorris’s volunteer care giver for 7 years and to Christina Cooper who assisted Becky. They will both receive many stars in their crowns. Thank you so much for your loving care. The family also appreciates the staff of Summerville and the Staff of Notice Residential Home Care where Dorris spent her last few months. The family suggests memorials be given to Hospice or a charity of others needs. Memorial service will be in the Abby Chapel at 3: PM at Restland Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Mike Middlebrooks of the Grand View Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Rest Land.
