Douglas Allan Lord's Obituary
Doug was born in Dallas, Texas on August 2, 1927 to Allan and Bertha Lord. He was raised in and graduated from the Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth, Texas, and played on the famous Masonic Home Mighty Mites football team. He then went on to receive his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate in Education degrees from North Texas State University in Denton. Doug also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later served in the Air Force and Air Force National Guard of Texas. He retired with the rank of Colonel.In his lifetime Doug was a teacher, insurance salesman, and travelled the world as a manager of many professional boxers, including a world champion. Doug’s lifelong passions included his memberships in MM, YR, SR, RCC, ROJ, Q, ES RIOIK. He held many leadership roles in these organizations and other service and charitable organizations including Emeritus Board Member of Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston, Past President of the Masonic Home and School Ex-Students Association, a past director of The Dallas All Sports Association, and a Board Member of The Dallas Golden Gloves.He was preceded in death by his parents Allan and Bertha Lord and granddaughter Jessica Lord. He is survived by his wife Opal Worthington Lord, his daughter Talou Miller and husband Tim, his sons Allan Lord and wife Cassie, Richard Lord and wife Lori, and JP Lord. Doug is also survived by his six grandchildren; Angela Machin, Tad Miller, Olivia Lord, Tori Godinez, Dale Lord, Tiger Lord, and his eleven great grandchildren.Opal and family would like to thank the Villages of Lake Highlands and Hospice Plus for the loving care of Doug during his final days. Contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston, Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital of Dallas, or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at Restland on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 6:00pm-8:00pm and services at Restland on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 11:00am.
