Douglas Earl Sherlock's Obituary
Sherlock, Douglas Earl died April 21, 2010 at his home at Stonehaven Assisted Living in Maumelle, Arkansas. He was born on June 9, 1916 in Superior, Wisconsin and grew up with his parents Jesse and Gertrude Sherlock on a dairy farm near Hancock, Wisconsin. He worked with his father on the farm; learned plumbing as a trade and was a volunteer fireman in his community. During World War II he served in the Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army in Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and at the German prisoner-of-war camp in Mexia, Texas, where he met Elza Mae Daughtry who became his wife of 66 years until her death in 2009. He lived with his wife in Dallas, Texas for over 50 years where he worked as a fireman and later a security guard for what is now Vought Aeronautics. After retirement they continued to enjoy living in Dallas among friends and family and served in Cockrell Hill Baptist Church until their move to Arkansas in 2006 to be near their daughter, Nedra Rouse. Douglas is survived by his daughter Nedra Jean Rouse of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandson Edward Rouse (Marie-anne); great grandchildren Joseph, Sarah and Jacob Rouse of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his wife Elza Mae Sherlock and his parents Jesse and Gertrude Sherlock.
