Douglas Webb's Obituary
Douglas Webb, 89, of Fort Worth, Tx passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018. Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, November 26, 2018 at Arborlawn United Methodist Church, 5001 Briarhaven Rd, Fort Worth, TX with a graveside to follow at 2 pm at Restland Memorial Park. Douglas Doles Webb was born to the late Carroll Leon Webb and Ottie Nowlin Webb on September 7, 1929, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was graduated from Shreveport’s Byrd High School in 1946, before enrolling that fall at Centenary College. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948, and upon being discharged, he resumed his education at SMU in Dallas, where he earned a BBA degree in Accounting in 1953. He became a licensed CPA. On his retirement, Doug received recognition as a 50-year member of the Texas Society of CPAs and an honorary lifetime membership. Doug worked in the Dallas office of the national accounting firm of Haskins & Sells, now Deloitte and Touche, for thirteen years before joining the Times Herald Printing Company as Chief Financial Officer, which in addition to publishing the Dallas Times Herald, operated television station KDFW and radio station KRLD. During the economic and building boom of the early 1980s, Doug was employed by a major residential developer, Metropolitan Financial Services, as Executive Vice President-Secretary and was later employed by the Resolution Trust Corporation in the settlement of the savings and loan financial crisis of the 1980s-1990s. Doug was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast following the Texas Rangers. Dallas Cowboys, and SMU Mustangs. After being retired in Arizona for fifteen years-where he played a lot of golf–Doug and Chloe returned home to Texas. They settled in Fort Worth and became members of Arborlawn United Methodist Church. He was a devout Christian, the focus of his life. He was baptized at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas at age 10. In 1939, he and his whole family were charter members of Park Cities Baptist Church. His grandmother Ella Keithley Webb, widow of a minister, gave the first dollar to the building fund. She was a tremendous influence on Doug’s life. He often said she knew more about the Bible than anyone he knew and could have been a preacher herself. Doug is survived by his wife of fifty years, Chloe Stradley Arden Webb; son Keith Webb, daughters, Stacy Webb Duckworth and Elise Arden Slone; fourteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Webb Moreau, his brother, Carroll L. Webb, Jr., and step-son Michael Arden, whom he raised. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Arborlawn Foundation or UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
