Lowell was a soldier in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. After his discharge from the Army, Lowell obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Abilene Christian University in 1958. In 1981, he completed his Master of Arts in Psychology at the University of Houston, Clear Lake City. Following his Master’s Degree, he graduated from Seminary in 1982 with a Doctorate in Theology. In 1984, Lowell became a licensed Professional Counselor. In 1989, he finished his education career with a PhD in Marriage and Family Counseling from Texas Women’s University. Not only was education important to Lowell, but his involvement in the mission field was as well. He spent 7 years in Johannesburg, South Africa where 2 of his children were born. When he returned from South Africa, he was also a minister in Longview, Houston and Dallas. After his active involvement in the ministry, he began his own successful private practice with Carrollton Marriage and Family Therapy where he eventually retired. In the early 1990s, Lowell met the love of his life, Ken Sims. Together, they were very involved and committed to the Legacy group and the Couples group at their church. So much so that they hosted the Annual Couples Christmas Party at their home for 18 years. Lowell was very passionate about making new members feel welcome and a part of Cathedral of Hope. Lowell was a wise and loving father, to his 5 children. He was involved in every activity that they were involved in. He enjoyed taking trips with them, which he always managed to make fun. Lowell loved making up stories to tell his children, and he loved having fun with them. His first priority was teaching them about God, and he always had time to listen and to teach. Lowell adored his children’s spouses and they adored him. He treated them like they were his own. Later when the grandchildren and the great grandchildren came along: He enjoyed spoiling and spending time with them. He will forever be loved and missed by all of them. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 27, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Lowell will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Cathedral of Hope.
