Duard Nelson Berry's Obituary
Duard Nelson Berry passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Dessie Embry Berry, brother Sammy Berry and wife Sandy Berry of Dallas, a sister, Karen Berry of Nocona, Texas, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 5 great nieces, and 4 great nephews.
Nelson was born April 30, 1938, to D.C. Berry, Jr. and Pauline Harper Berry in Gainsville, Texas. He graduated from Saint Jo High School in 1956 and went on to attend Texas Tech University, graduating with a degree in International Trade in 1960. While at Texas Tech, he became a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1968, he earned a master's degree in government and economics from Texas Tech. Nelson taught government and economics in high school, then went on to work in school administration. He retired after 34 years.
On August 19, 1959, he married the love of his life, Dessie Embry Berry. They were married for 66 years. The first 6 years of their married life was spent in Lubbock, Texas, before moving to Dallas, Texas. During their married life, they traveled throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Nelson was a man of many interests. One of his major interests was studying and collecting minerals.
