Dwain Davis Howard's Obituary
Dwain Davis Howard of Plano, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the age of 71. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 7, 1954, to parents Kieffer L. and Ellen Davis Howard. Dwain graduated from the University of Arkansas and then received a masters degree in finance from Colorado State University.
Dwain moved to Dallas in 1978 and started what was to become a long and successful career in banking and finance when he began working as a bank holding company examiner at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He subsequently worked at Southwest Bancshares, MCorp, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and retired from Texas Capital Bancshares as executive vice president in 2019. Dwain also received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA).
Dwain had a passion for travel and he and his wife, Sherry, traveled to every continent with the exception of Antarctica. They not only enjoyed traditional destinations like London and Rome, but they also ventured to more exotic places like Tanzania, Morocco and Albania(!). And Dwain enjoyed preparing ambitious trip schedules on Excel almost as much as he enjoyed the trips themselves. He also delighted in photography. Taking a few classes to improve his skills he put them to good use on the trips. Dwain prepared many videos and still photography productions to show his friends and workmates. Dwain enjoyed golf and looked forward to the annual golf trips with a network of EDS alumni. He was an avid fan of University of Arkansas sports, particularly basketball. Woo Pig!
Dwain was the go-to person to consult before buying a car, camera, sound system or computer and relished researching the planned purchase whether it was his own or that of a friend.
A longtime supporter of the T. Boone Pickens YMCA, he volunteered there for a number of years. Dwain also served on the Board of Directors and then as Chairman. He was a proponent and advocate for YMCA Metropolitan Dallas Foundation Scholarship Program.
Dwain was predeceased by his daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Howard. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sherry, and his two brothers Lamar and Dan Howard of Arkansas and their wives, Melissa and Susan. He also leaves behind two nephews, Jeffrey and Greyson and niece Leah Lyle and husband Bill.
Dwain suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease and the family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff at Arbor Hills Memory Care for their kind and thoughtful care of Dwain during his illness.
A memorial service will be held for Dwain on Wednesday March 4, 2026, 1:30pm at St. Andrew Methodist Church, Hasley Chapel, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, Tx 75093
