Dwight Charles Craig's Obituary
CRAIG, DWIGHT CHARLES Born November 17, 1940 in Abilene, TX, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2011 in Plano, TX. Charlie Craig, was born to Dwight and Mary Jo Craig in Abilene, Texas. He grew up in Abilene, Texas where he won 1st place in the National AAU Olympic finals in the 100 yard dash. Shortly after that, he contracted Polio which left him with lifelong paralysis. He was an Eagle Scout and President of the Student Body at Abilene High School . After graduation from high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, and then graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He attended UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he met his wife, Marcy. They both interned at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth. Charlie enlisted in the Army and served as a Captain at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. He served as Chief of the Department of Radiology at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia where he was honorably discharged with the Army Commendation Medal. He completed his Radiology Residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He began his Radiology practice in Richardson, Texas and became the first radiologist in Plano. He served as Chief of Staff at Plano General Hospital. He practiced radiology for 30 years. Charlie’s passions were golf, fishing, country music and watching his grandkids play sports. Charlie is survived by wife of 46 years, Marcy; daughter, Cara Milson and husband Stuart, daughter Christa Carter and husband John, and son Mark Craig; grandchildren, Harris Cole Milson, Jack Andrew Milson, Walker Charles Milson, Craig Thomas Carter, Kyle Winston Carter, Mary Claire Carter, and Sarah Anne Carter; sister-in-law, Marlena Kackley and husband, Lee; niece, Jane Kackley, nephew, Jimmy Kackley; and cousin, Sally Jo Dyer. Honorary Pallbearers are: Togie Flowers, J.M. Gilbert, M.D., Rodney Joy, Phil Oakes, M.D., Ray Perryman M.D., Sam Woolbert, M.D., Interment will take place 11:15am, Friday, March 18 at DFW National Cemetery with Memorial Service to follow at Fellowship Dallas at 2:00 pm, 9330 North Central Expressway. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abilene Education Foundation www.aaeeff.org, Hardin Simmons University www.hsutx.edu or the charity of your choice. Charlie was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed.
