Earl Wayne Gunn's Obituary
Earl Wayne Gunn, 82, of Jonesboro, passed on to glory on Tuesday, July 5 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Manila, Arkansas, on January 11, 1940 to Earl and Edith Gunn. During high school his family moved to Benton Harbor, MI. In 1970, he and his young family moved to Arkansas, and eventually, Texas. He returned to reside in Jonesboro 18 years ago and was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ. He honorably served our country in the US Marine Corp (1959-1965).
Earl is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Jean (Ray) Dively and Mary (Earl) Nemethy; his first wife, Carolyn (d.2002), and two great-grandbabies: Kylie and Jolie Selby.
He is survived by his wife, Janice, of 18 years, brother Jim (Char) Gunn, his children: Phyllis (Frank) Bender, Terri (Mark) Archer, Bobby (Amy) Gunn and Montey Jetton; 8 grandchildren: Jenna (Matt), Tara (Jordan), Ryan, Garrett, Alex, Kent, Travis, and Lindsey; 5 “GREAT”grandchildren: Aria, Clarke, Harper, Jaxon, and Zoey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a dedicated family man who loved God, his church family, and country. Whether you knew him as “Earl”, “Wayne”, or “Earl Wayne” you would find him kind, considerate and sympathetic who esteemed others higher than himself. He was a man of refreshing candor who was also a good listener, beloved by many.
Funeral service will be held at the Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro, AR, on Saturday, July 9: family visitation 12:30pm - 1pm; open visitation 1pm - 2pm; 2pm funeral service; followed by his burial and a memorial with friends and family in Texas, with Military Honor Guard.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the outstanding compassionate care teams at NEA Baptist, Ridgecrest Health and Rehab, and Dierkson Hospice.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paragould Children’s Home or the “Speaking the Truth in Love” TV program which were both important to his heart.
