Earl Ward Wylie's Obituary
Earl was born on a farm near the small farming community of Belva, OK, on July 4, 1940, and passed away on April 21, 2017, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 17 days. He attended the first grade at the Belva one-room school house. The school closed then and he rode the bus to the Waynoka, OK, public schools in the second grade. In the summer of 1948 his parents, Earl C. and Lovie L. (Corson) Wylie, moved to Waynoka with Earl and his younger sister, Linda Sue, in tow. He graduated from high school in 1958 and entered the US Army a few days later from pre-graduate arrangements. He fulfilled his enlistment and was honorably released in May 1961, but was called back to active duty to report in November 1961, as the result of the Berlin Missile Crisis. Before reporting, he was united in marriage to a childhood friend, Charline McBride, to whom he was already engaged. He was, once again, released from active duty in August 1962. He worked for his father as a carpenter over the next two years during which their son, Gregory Alan, was born in August 1963. In August 1964, he and his new family moved to Houston, TX where he had accepted a job with a regional airline, Trans-Texas Airways, as a reservations sales supervisor. In January 1969, he entered the automotive industry where he spent the next twenty-nine years. The first thirteen years with Volvo of America Corp., Houston Zone. He was transferred to Dallas, TX, in May 1978, by Volvo. In March 1982, he was hired by Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc., Houston, TX, Zone. He remained in Dallas although the M-B office was in Houston. He worked out of his home since it was a dealer contact/field management job and he reported to the Zone office. In May 1994 he left M-B and worked for different dealers in retail both parts wholesale/new and in new and used vehicles for the last four years in the industry. Earl permanently ended his automotive career in September 1998. In October 1998, he began working for a large, local company as an accounts payable trainee. He quickly learned this new profession and remained in that field of employment until June 2011, when he retired due to health. Although he and Charline took separate paths in 2002, they did remain good friends. He met Yin Lam from Hong Kong in late 2004 on a blind luncheon date that was prearranged by mutual friends. He said that he was immediately attracted to her. He and Yin were married in December 2007. Earl always said she was such a sweet, good and caring person and that he loved her very much. He often and affectionately called her his “Baby.” He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. Earl is survived by his wife, Yin Lam, of the home in Dallas; son, Gregory Alan and Sarina (Leyton) Wylie and granddaughter, Samantha Niahole, Burbank, CA. Also, his son’s mother, Charline Wylie, Burbank; her sisters, Vada Parker and Gay Venters, both of Enid, OK. Additionally, stepsons Tai and wife Pat Wong, David Wong and Vincent Wong, all of the Dallas area and additionally two nephews and two nieces in OK. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 12:00PM in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
