Earnest Mallory Polk's Obituary
POLK, MR. EARNEST M. was born June 8, 1931 to Ms. Clara Polk in Calvert, Texas. Mr. Polk graduated from Ferris High School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree from Paul Quinn College in 1952. He received his Master’s degree from Texas Southern University in 1955. In 1955 he united in Holy Matrimony to Ella Louise Daniels, to this union three children were born, Toni Polk Culpepper, Pamela Polk and Mallori Polk. Mr. Polk enlisted in the United States Army and received honorable discharge in 1949. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army, Mr. Polk enlisted in the United States Navy on July 20, 1949 in San Francisco, California. His highest rank was SA and he served on USNTC San Diego, Calif. and USS Titania AKA-13 in the U.S. Navy until July 19, 1950 when he received honorable discharge. At the age of three, Mr. Polk joined the Greater Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Ferris, Texas. After moving to Dallas, he became a member of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church in 1956. Mr. Polk was an active member of Hamilton Park UMC and the Hamilton Park community. As a pillar in the Dallas-Fort Worth community, he was well known from his work in and out of the church. He began his career in the education system in Garland ISD before he moved to Dallas ISD, where he worked in Adult Basic Education among other roles. Mr. Polk worked as administrator before retiring. He was very active in the Paul Quinn Alumni Association and enjoyed traveling the world before he began his battle with Leukemia. Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his mother Clara Polk Robinson (Jack Robinson); sister, Willie Juanita Woods; wife, Ella Louise Daniels Polk and grandson, Christopher Culpepper. He is survived by his daughters, Toni Culpepper (Joseph Culpepper), Pamela Polk, Mallori Polk, Clarisse Vestal; son Lloyd Vestal (Paulina Vestal); nephew, David Lee Woods; granddaughter, Lauren Culpepper and a host of other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends from noon to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church.
