Edgar Eugene Harbour's Obituary
On Tuesday, November 17th, the world lost a great man. Edgar “Eugene” Harbour passed in the hospital at the age of 83 due to COVID19.
This amazing man was born in Harlingen, Texas in 1937. His hard work ethic started at an early age. During his early years he had many jobs including everything from paper routes, mowing yards, picking cotton, painting tractors to later years working for a seismograph company and on a line crew setting up electrical poles on South Padre Island.
He loved playing football but had a horrible knee injury that kept him from playing college ball. He once received the Spirit Award from Coach Bear Bryant who presented it to him personally. After finishing high school, he wanted to join the Army and jump out of planes, but they would not take him due to his bad knee.
Eugene graduated from Texas A&I. That is where he met his wife of 61 years. They moved to Dallas in the early 60’s and he began a long and much respected career in the construction materials testing industry.
Eugene was a pioneer in his field. He was one of the first concrete specialist to design concrete mixes based on what could be locally sourced. His expertise was highly respected, and he was involved in projects in Texas, Nebraska and Australia. In the mid 70’s he helped the Royal Jordanian Air Force with runway issues and even traveled to Saudi Arabia several times to consult on projects there. He loved all the guys that worked for him over the years. He loved sharing what he knew and encouraging others.
If you’re local to the Dallas, Texas area, he was involved in most of the iconic structures. He worked on Texas Stadium, Reunion Town, City of Dallas City of Hall, UT Southwestern Medical Center, American Airline Center and Dallas Federal Reserve to name a few. He was also a member of ACI and SEAoT.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Doris Ann Harbour, son Douglas Eugene Harbour, and daughter Linda Harbour Fallin. Eugene also has 4 beloved grandchildren; Christopher Harbour, Jillian Alexander, Valerie Harbour, Mason Fallin and 5 great-grandchildren. His sister Kathleen Harbour Roach, best friend Doug Gray and honorary daughter LeAnn Belcher, as well as many other honorary family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, November 28th at Restland Memorial Park, Court of Good Shepherd; please wear mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to your favorite charity in Eugene’s honor.
