Edgar David Newman's Obituary
Newman, Edgar David, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2010. Ed was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee on March 11, 1929 to William and Edith Newman. He graduated from Young High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he played football and was the captain of the basketball team. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee in 1948, from which he later graduated. Ed served in the US Army from 1950-1952 in Iceland. He came out as a Sergeant First Class, and continued his service in the Tennessee National Guard until 1962. After the military, he married Juanita Christine Wilson in Kentucky and had two sons, David and Sloan. He was a Zone Sales Manager for Masury-Columbia and Hillyard Chemical for over 35 years. Ed was a resident of Mesquite, Texas for 42 years, where he was a longtime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and pool player. Ed loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Edith Newman; his sisters and brothers in law Kathleen and JW McDaniel, and Opal and Sloan Bennett. He is survived by his loving wife Juanita, sons David Newman of Garland and Sloan Newman, daughter in law Jill and grandson Garrett of Rockwall, Texas; sister and brother in law Evelyn and Bob Cannon of Knoxville, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 6 from 1:30 – 3pm at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:30pm in the Memorial Chapel. Any memorials may be sent to St. Marks Methodist Church, 3117 Motley Drive, Mesquite, TX in his honor.
