Edith Carolyn Benham's Obituary
Edith Carolyn Mitchell Benham was promoted to Glory on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Oxford Glen In Grand Prairie, Texas. She was born in Fulbright, Texas on October 21, 1928 to Francis Marion Mitchell and Laura Elmyra McCulloch. She served for many years as church secretary at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Garland, where she and her family were faithful members. She worked for Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in the word processing center and was instrumental in the adoption of newly developing computer technologies in her department. During retirement, she volunteered with “Off Their Rockers,” a group that read to and with elementary school children, enjoyed swimming, reading, serving, at first United Methods Church in Garland, researching her family’s genealogy and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Edith is survived by daughters Brenda Rhodes, Shirley Benham, Laura Cousar, and Carolyn Buckhout and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Benham; sister, Louella Latimer; brothers, Calvin Latimer and Albert Mitchell and grandson, Brandon Houston. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at First United Methodist Garland with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
