Edith Darlyne Campbell's Obituary
Edith Darlene Campbell passed to Jesus on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Born in Hartman, Colorado to Donald and LaVonne Palmer on March 23, 1936, as the oldest of their three daughters. Her father was a dairy farmer on the land that is now the Air Force Academy. She grew up in and around Colorado Springs until attending a private Christian boarding high school in Haviland, Kansas. After graduating from high school, she worked and took college courses toward a degree in nutrition, living a short time in Longview/Kelso, Washington. She returned to Colorado Springs where she met Bill Campbell, the love of her life, while working at Montgomery Ward. They married and were transferred to Kansas City where Bill worked at Ward’s Regional office.
During this first move, they started attending Church which was a huge part of their lives and marriage until Bill passed to Jesus in 2005. Darlene learned to play bridge during this first move, and it proved to be a lifelong hobby which connected her to a new community, beyond Church, in every city she lived thereafter.
Following Kansas City, they moved to Spring, Texas, then Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, followed by Jacksonville, Florida. From Jacksonville, they moved to Dallas, then Palm Harbor, Florida, followed by Tomball, Texas and then to Clearwater, Florida which was their home for 30 years. Despite all those moves, Darlene built deep community wherever she lived and connected with friends from coast to coast. Bill always said she entered every move crying and left every place crying for the deep friendships she was leaving.
At 80, she determined it was time to move closer to her children in the Dallas area and bought a house near her daughter Terri and son-in-law Phil in Plano. She quickly found Hunters Glen Baptist Church and believed it was the kindest and most friendly Church she had ever attended. That was quite a proclamation because she was in charge of the greeters at her Bayside Community Church in Clearwater for nearly 20 years. She also quickly connected with the Plano bridge community after her move.
Darlene will be deeply missed by her family and countless friends. It has been repeatedly said that she was the one who carried people through a dark period in their lives. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her loving husband, Bill Campbell as well as her youngest sister Jann Sentena. She leaves her son Barry Campbell and his wife Jennie, her daughter Terri Threadgill and her husband Phil as well as grandchildren, Byron Campbell and his wife April, Shannon Bergman, Cameron Threadgill and his fiancé Lucy Gaytan, and Ryan Threadgill and his wife Julia as well as great grandchildren Bradley Campbell, Raylee Bergman, Gideon Bergman, Grace Campbell and Azaryah Jackson. Her sister June Worden lives in Fresno, California and her brother-in-law Paul Sentena lives with his wife Sharon in Seattle, Washington. Her nieces and nephews are Kevin Worden, Kenny Worden and his wife Rene, Tami Worden, Matthew Sentena and his wife Jennifer.
Darlene’s life goal was to follow Christ well and to point others to Him. She always wore her witness bracelet as well as a necklace which said, “Try God.” Have you considered Him?
Her memorial service will be held at Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano on Friday, September 5 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Darlene to Hunters Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Road, Plano, TX 75075.
