Edith "Jean" Condrey's Obituary
Edith Jean CondreyEdith (Jean) Condrey, 94, of Dallas, Texas, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2019.Jean was born August 16, 1924 to George and Mable Lightburn in Capron, Oklahoma. Her brother, Louis Lightburn, parents, twin sister Joyce Eyler and devoted husband of 54 years, Terry Condrey, preceded her in death.Jean was a prime example of a Christian woman forever studying the Bible and living by faith. She excelled at putting her family first as a wife and mother to four children. She was a master seamstress. Her creations included the wedding dresses for both daughters and an heirloom little boy suit that has been worn by three generations. Her family enjoyed the holiday meals and traditional Christmas brunch. Guests were always charmed by her smile and gracious hospitality. Her children remember her support, love and encouraging words. She was an accomplished bridge player and embraced the visual arts. Jean unconditionally loved all of her grandchildren just as God had created them. Yet, she also challenged them to learn scripture, to forgive and to work on character qualities. And, then there were funny gifts. It was always a surprise to see what was in the “Jean” gift.As a graduate of Oklahoma State University in 1945, Jean started married life in Stillwater, Oklahoma, after Terry returned from WWII. Later, after their youngest child left for college, she obtained a Masters of Nutrition and worked outside the home as a Nutrition Consultant. Life decisions moved her to Lubbock Texas; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Birmingham, Alabama; Stillwater, Oklahoma, and finally to Dallas, Texas. At each of those stops Jean was active in a Methodist Church. She is survived by her children Vic Condrey (Nancy), Cathy Ratliff (Sam), Marsha Ramee, and Lee Condrey, (Jane). The ten grandchildren include: Cliff Condrey, Clay Condrey, Will Condrey, Molly White, Ben Ratliff, Brad Ratliff, Jennifer Fleischer, Katie Condrey, Nathan Condrey and Daniel Condrey. Nineteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive Jean. One could use many adjectives to describe Jean as she was physically beautiful, spiritually strong, gracious and gifted with talents that brought both herself and others great joy. She will be missed until we meet again. The family wishes to thank Dianne and Walter Adams for making her time spent in Stillwater so special and Cathy and Sam Ratliff for the great love and care Jean received in Dallas. In addition to her friends and family, great appreciation goes to the staff at Arden Courts Memory Care.A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Please join our family in celebrating her life.
