Edith Erna Holm's Obituary
Born August 31, 1928 in Flatow, Germany, Edith immigrated to the United States with her family in 1963 and settled in Dallas. Having completed the elite German Gymnasium and having mastered English, Edith quickly excelled and climbed the ladder from secretarial positions at various companies to Public Relations for Lufthansa German Airlines, where she was employed until her retirement. Edith will forever be remembered for her style, grace, impeccable taste and beauty, one who always stood out in a crowd, much to the envy of those around her. Edith was also an animal lover, most notably her dogs. Her Great Danes and Greyhounds were surely waiting with wagging tails and wet kisses at the Rainbow Bridge. Edith was adventurous and well traveled, having touched nearly every continent. Ever the lady, she could none-the-less be found playing with a baby tiger or riding upon an elephant in Bangkok, viewing the pyramids upon a camel in Egypt, on safari in Kenya, searching for treasures in India, North Africa and Greece or simply relaxing at a Venetian spa. Though small in stature, Edith was a fighter. She fought a gallant battle the last 8 years of her life after suffering a massive stroke in early 2001. During her struggle, many caregivers passed through her life, but three were angels in human form, C.N.A.’s Rolanda “Ro” Johnson and Stephanie Broussard and R.N. Deje Roberts. The family thanks you for bringing warmth, love and laughter into our mom’s life at a time it was most needed. Your wings are ready when you are! A special thank you to mom’s long time friends Helga Loftin of Addison and Nola DeLoach of Dallas. You were ready at a moment’s notice to help with whatever we asked. Thank you to those who assisted in mom’s final days, C.N.A. Patricia Campbell and the team from Faith Presbyterian Hospice. We couldn’t have done it without you. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Ernestine Tantau. She is survived by her son, Dr. Peter Holm, (wife Pam, children Meaghan and Heath) of Garland, her daughter Susan Wofford, (husband Doug, daughter Skye) of Dallas, and her sister, Brigitte Tantau of Fallersleben, Germany. The family will receive friends for a celebration of life Saturday, February 7th, from 1pm-4pm at Edith’s Lake Highlands home. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Edith’s name to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Greyhounds Unlimited or an animal shelter/charity of your choice would be welcomed. Mom is now at peace and able to walk and talk again, but this time, with the Lord at her side. “Absent from the body, present with the Lord.” We love you, Mom!
