Mrs Edna Earle Cook's Obituary
COOK, EDNA E. 87, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away May 17, 2007. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Clorval A. (Cookie) Cook. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl E. McDermott; and her son, Robert A. Cook, M.D., and his wife, M. Jane Latimer, M.D.; grandchildren, Kevin R. McDermott, Jr., Natalie R. McDermott, and Nicole E. McDermott; sister, Marion H. Rutherford of Round Rock, TX; sisters-in-law, Donna Hanson of Oklahoma City, OK and Betty Seeker of Prairie Lea, TX, and Virginia Frye of CA;and many loving nieces and nephews. Edna was born Sept. 25, 1919 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Sigurd and Vivian Hanson. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Central State University in Edmond, OK , then worked for the United States Air Force for 18 years until 1960, received her Elementary Certification from Whittier College in California, and later earned her Masters degree in Education from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. She was a dedicated teacher in California, New Jersey, and Texas, retiring from teaching in 1986 after many years teaching first and third grades at Mark Twain Elementary school in Richardson, TX. She was a member of (Richardson) Heights Baptist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, the North Dallas Area Woman’s Club, the North Texas Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society, the Dallas County North Republican Club, the North East Texas Porcelain Art Club, and the Top of Dallas Shrine Club, Daughter’s of the Nile. The family thanks Life Care Center of Plano and J. Blake Bolin, M.D. for the wonderful care she received. In lieu of flowers, the family requests blood donations be made in her name to Carter BloodCare, 12835 Preston Road, Dallas, TX 75230 or memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4144 N. Central Expwy., Ste. 750, Dallas, TX 75204. Family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3:30PM, Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
