Edward Rowe Ehemann's Obituary
Edward R. Ehemann, of Irving, a Navy veteran, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old. Mr. Ehemann (“Red”), who retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (now AT&T) in 1987 as a Manager of Building Maintenance, joined the u.s. Navy/Seabees in 1946 and served 4 years as a Construction Electrician’s Mate Third. Born in Tallulah, Louisiana on April 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles Christopher and Florence Whelan Ehemann. The family moved from Tallulah, Louisiana to Mount Pleasant, Texas in 1929. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in June of 1946 and joined the Navy that August. During his tenure in the Navy, Mr. Ehemann was able to develop the craft of an electrician while spending time in Guam, Saipan and the Aleutian Islands. Following his honorable discharge on May 9, 1950, he settled in Dallas and began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1951 and also began dating his wife-to-be, Wanda Troutman. On May 17,1953, they were married in Drumright, Oklahoma, and shortly afterward, moved to Irving, Texas. Red and Wanda started their family in 1956 when son Leon Edward was born. Daughter Maria Lynn was born in 1960. Red’s best day included spending time among family and friends with good food. After his retirement from AT&T, he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Mr. Ehemann was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Ehemann; brothers Charles L. Ehemann and Harold C. Ehemann; and sister Maria McCubbin. He is survived by his son and daughter-in- law, Lee and Donna Ehemann of North Richland Hills, Texas; daughter, Lynn Ehemann of Irving, Texas; two grandchildren, Michael Ehemann of Carrollton, Texas and Tiffany Ehemann of Garland, Texas; brother Marion F. Ehemann of Dallas, Texas; and four nephews, Rex McCubbin of Kilgore, Texas, Chris Ehemann of Danville, California, David Ehemann of Tullahoma, Tennessee, and Mark Ehemann of Manchester, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 12:30 PM at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
