Edward Jay Leavitt's Obituary
LEAVITT, EDWARD J. age 82 of Dallas, Texas was peacefully called home to his Lord and Savior while at home under hospice care on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife Bernadine (Bernie) Gerzema and his eldest son, Edward Jay Leavitt Jr. Memorial service will be held Friday, May 4th at 10 am at Prairie Creek Baptist Church, 3201 West 15th Street in Plano with Pastors Bob Ross and Randy Marshall officiating. Ed Leavitt, the son of the late Lucille Gibson, was born on December 2, 1929 in Wellsburg, West Virginia. The only boy and the eldest of five children, Ed was guided into manhood by his loving uncles. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, Ed entered law enforcement in the metropolitan Phoenix area and later worked in sales and marketing for many years in Phoenix and Dallas. He is survived by his loving wife Norma, daughter Debra and husband Craig Shafer, sons Markley and wife Eileen Leavitt, Laird and wife Leigh Ann Leavitt, stepdaughters Lynne and husband Donnie Shaw, Pat Myers and Diane and husband Jack Tabor, 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Ed loved to travel and was always up for a new adventure. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Prairie Creek Baptist Church or Faith Presbyterian Hospice, 4350 Sigma Rd, Suite 400, Dallas, TX 75244.
