Edward Lee Lyon's Obituary
Edward “Ed” Lee Lyon, age 91, went to be with his Savior on March 3, 2017. Ed, son of Carter and Raye Lyon, was born on August 17, 1925 in Elgin, Illinois. He grew up and was raised in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from high school early, he joined the Navy in March of 1943. He served in the Navy for 3 years, through World War II, and was honorably discharged in June of 1946. Upon returning home, he attended and graduated from Centre College in Kentucky where he met the love of his life, Betty Coad; his wife of 66 wonderful years. In 1987, after a long and successful career with Sentry Insurance, Ed and Betty built their retirement home on Cedar Creek Lake. He loved life at the lake and being on the water; fishing, boat rides, and teaching his grandchildren and countless of their friends how to water ski. After many happy years on the lake they moved to Rowlett, Texas to be near family. Ed was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed building intricate models and wood working projects for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed their many graduations, ball games, school programs, and dance recitals. Ed is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Peggie and (Buddy) Spicer, Carter and (Julie) Lyon; grandchildren, Raynee and (David) Beaty, Clay and (DeLayne) Spicer, Kelley and (Colton) Shannon, Sam and Carter Lyon; and great-grandchildren, Averie and Alexa Beaty, Ella, Henlee, Bradly, and Jack Spicer.
