Edward Frank Walkowicz's Obituary
Walkowicz Edward Frank, 91, of Royse City, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday October 1, 2012 at his daughter and son-in-laws home in Royse City, Texas. Ed was born in Bruin, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Helena Walkowicz and lived most of his life in Garland, Texas. Ed was a generous and loving man with a great sense of humor who truly enjoyed being with his family and friends. He had a passion for repairing things and flying, which began when he joined the army in 1944. Starting his military career as a mechanic, he progressed to flying school and became a pilot. He flew many military aircraft including the B-29 bomber and served in the Pacific Theater in WW II. After leaving the service in 1947 with a rank of First Lieutenant he joined Pioneer Airlines. He flew commercial propeller and jet aircraft until he retired as Captain with Continental Airlines in 1981. During his career with Continental he reprised his military career flying transport missions to/from the United States to Vietnam. He enjoyed repairing and maintaining single engine aircraft and started an aircraft repair business in Rockwall, Texas. His proud business, Rockwall Air Service still operates today. Ed had many interests. In his spare time he enjoyed flying his single engine Bonanza, and being a flying instructor. He loved owning and operating personal computers, repairing TVs and fixing anything mechanical. He was also an avid HAM radio operator and served in the Civil Air Patrol. Ed was a loving, adoring husband and best friend to his wife of 67 years Ella Montez who survived him. He is also survived by his sister, Helen; son, Eddie Walkowicz and daughter-in-law Liz Walkowicz; daughter, Sandy Pohlmann and son-in-law Gene Pohlmann; grandson, Alan Walkowicz and granddaughter, Amy Walkowicz. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home from 06:00 to 08:00 PM. Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Restland Memorial Park at 1:00 PM.
