Edward James Williams' Obituary
Edward James Williams was born in Huntingdon Pennsylvania on September 20, 1926 and died on May 26, 2019 in Dallas Texas, a place where he had raised a family and made life-long friends. He filled his 92 years spending each day with those who were important to him. Ed’s life began in Pennsylvania with his parents, Edward J. and Regina P. Williams and three years later his sister, Regina, was born. Huntingdon was home until the age of 17 when Ed made the decision to join the Navy and fight in World War II. He returned after the war ready to travel to warmer climates and headed to New Mexico. There he attended the University of New Mexico and became a tackle on their football team. He discovered that he was a natural at sales and his first job was as a medical sales rep for Ohio Chemical with his territory being New Mexico and Texas. He settled in Dallas where he married the mother of his children, Marjorie May Murray. They lived life fully; loving and raising their family until her death in 1989.Ed lived life taking it one day at time and this journey enabled him to meet and make friends who became like a second family; a family who were friends of Bill W. Ed was a fortunate man and he found love twice and married Phoeba McGinnis Williams. They shared 24 years together before she preceded him in death. During this season he was able to spend time daily with his daughter Pam and her husband Gary and watch as their daughters, Amanda and Melissa grew from children into women who would bring his great grandchildren, Juliana, Lezley and Jacob, into this world. He shared life with JD, Diane and his grandson Chase spending every Sunday afternoon sharing a meal and discussing football, baseball or golf. Ed frequently traveled for Christmas to spend time with one of his best friends, his sister, Regina. There he would visit with her and her children, Bill and Stephanie, and their families; always grateful for the time together.Throughout life Ed shared friendships with many who became an integral part of his life and with whom many birthdays were celebrated. Ed accomplished much in his life and received awards but the most important were his faith in God and his family. Ed enjoyed playing bridge, being early everywhere he went and spending time selecting the perfect card to give to someone he loved. Ed had many gifts and one of those was his steadfastness; his family and friends knew that he would be there for them. How fortunate we were to have loved and been loved by this man.In the past month as his health worsened Ed was encouraged by the love of his family and friends who demonstrated their compassion through their prayers, their visits and their cards. The life of Ed Williams will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, 9015 Plano Road Dallas Texas 75238. If you would like to send flowers please send them to the church address above before Friday at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Off Campus Ministry of the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church or White Rock Center of Hope 10021 Garland Road # A Dallas, Texas 75218. Ed spent time volunteering with each of these organizations and knew the value of their presence in his community. Each offers hope and second chances, something Ed would want for each of us.
