Edwin Reginald Greer Jr.'s Obituary
Edwin R. Greer, Jr. was born in Dallas, Texas to joyful parents, Reg and Jeffe May Greer on June 2, 1936. He left this world peacefully October 18, 2014. Ed spent his boyhood in Highland Park, participating in Boy Scouts, watching football games at the Cotton Bowl, throwing a paper route, attending Camp Longhorn, and enjoying family car trips and back yard cookouts. Ed graduated from Highland Park High School in 1954. He attended the University of Texas, pledging Lambda Chi Alpha and graduating with a business degree in 1963. Ed returned to Dallas after his years in Austin, beginning a lifelong career in marketing and business development, ultimately focusing on technology and the burgeoning computer industry. In 1989 he formed Group G, an executive placement and recruitment firm connecting tech and software professionals with job opportunities across Texas. The love of his life, Carolann Lewis, would cross his path in in the early 70’s. They married August 24, 1974 at Highland Park Methodist Church and welcomed beloved son, Mitchell Harmon Greer, in 1977. Mitch’s artistic and musical talents, along with his success in the technology industry, were a source of tremendous pride to his parents. Travel to San Francisco to see Mitch and his wife, Rachel was a yearly highlight. Ed loved all things Texas and all things Park Cities, including the Texas State Fair, Dallas Cowboy and Longhorn games, the Park Cities July 4th parade, and family gatherings at Gordo’s and Dunston’s. Even after his diagnosis in late spring with ALS, Ed was determined to relive a few more Texas experiences, driving to the Hill Country for a walk in the bluebonnets and Galveston to put toes in the sand. In the last years of his life, Ed worked extensively on family genealogy, travelling with his brother to north Alabama for genealogy work. A sixth generation Texan, Ed deeply appreciated his East Texas roots, making frequent trips to Jefferson, Pittsburg and Caddo Lake. Annual visits to the homes of his nieces in Fairhope, Alabama and Washington, DC were treasured as well. His quick wit, love of music and books, and unabashed laugh will be missed beyond measure. His tremendous love and devotion to his family will not be forgotten. Ed is preceded in death by parents, E.R. and Jeffe May Greer and his wife, Carolann. He is survived by his son, Mitch and daughter-in-law, Rachel; brother, Kenneth; nieces, Emily and Amy and four great-nieces and a nephew.
