Edwin Eugene Hervey's Obituary
HERVEY, EDWIN EUGENE passed away October 11, 2012 after a nine year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Lamar County on December 27, 1932 to Walter and Uba Hervey. Hervey, as he was affectionately known, lived his life to the fullest, loving his friends and family unconditionally. He went from life in the cotton patch of Delta County to serving four years in the US Navy, two stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Using the GI Bill, he attended East Texas State University receiving both his Bachelors and Masters in Education. He had a 30 year career teaching in the Dallas Independent School District, the majority at W. W. Samuell High School. His favorite memories were made teaching Outdoor Education and sponsoring the Woods and Water Club. He introduced many young people to the joys of the outdoors-camping and canoeing the Guadalupe River. He enjoyed every day of his retirement loving to travel to new places and then return home to his best friend, his Bichon, Snowball. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Tommie Jo Wiser and his son-in-law, Robert Hendley. He is survived by his wife, Gail Harris Hervey; his daughter, Debra Pixler (Curtis); his sons, Michael Hervey (Kathaleen) and Jeffrey Hamilton;’his granddaughters, Robyn Spence and Angie Laningham (Jason), his grandsons, Tyler Hendley, Tyler Hervey, Coleton Hervey and Jonathan Garza (Brittany); 3 great granddaughters; 2 great grandsons; brother, Harold Herveyalong with many other friends and family. During his life, Edwin enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and most of all spending time with family and friends, always planning and looking forward to a new adventure. His family and friends could always count on him to be there for them no matter what the problem or need was. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. The service will be held Monday, October 15, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Memorials may be made to the SPCA or Alzheimer’s Association.
