Ed joined the Air Force in October 1955 and served until September 1959. While stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas he met Shirlee Beth Estes while she was a student at Abilene Christian College. Ed and Shirlee were married March 27, 1959, until her death July 1, 1991. Ed and Shirlee raised their daughters in Garland, Texas with the philosophy, “when you have kids, that’s all you have” and that was evident in their actions towards their girls. Ed coordinated the annual ski trip for the youth at Church and mentored young men in life. There were many dear friends in their church family and a lot of lives positively impacted. Many “singings”, domino nights and get togethers were hosted in their home where everyone was welcome.
