Effie Pierce Vaughan's Obituary
VAUGHAN, EFFIE PIERCE Passed away on February 18, 2012 in Dallas, TX. She was born May 24, 1910, the oldest of 5 children to C.C. and Dona Pierce. Preceded in death by husband, Reverend Alton Vaughan; sons, Lonnie Fay and Monte Ray Vaughan; brother, W.C. Pierce; sisters, Edythe Conner, Eva Roach, Eula Schroeder, Erma Lemon. Effie is survived by many nieces and nephews. Effie graduated from Vernon High School, Vernon, TX. After marriage and two children she attended North Texas State College, Denton, TX, where she received a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, Effie and Alton were moved to many communities within the North Texas Methodist Conference where she taught at several elementary schools. After teaching and preaching for several years they settled in Dallas. Effie immediately took a position teaching first grade at Nancy Mosley Elementary School, DISD. She retired in 1974 after 30 years at Nancy Mosley. Effie always wished that she had kept up with the number of children she had taught to read. Effie was very active in the United Methodist Church; she taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and a member of the woman’s society. She loved to quilt, crochet and tat, but her true love was teaching. Services will be at 3:00pm, Wednesday, February 22nd at Restland Wildwood Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior.
