Elaine Dry's Obituary
Elaine Hedrick Dry, 89, died October 6, 2016 with her beloved family by her side. She was born in Thurber, Texas to Ada May and Oley Foster Hedrick, and grew up during the depression in Midland, Texas. She went to Christian College at age 16, and at 18 entered the University of Texas. Her college days were cut short when she met the love of her life, Robert “T” Dry, who was stationed at the Midland Army Airfield, and they startled their families by eloping on December 29, 1945. They were married nearly 68 years, until Bob passed away in 2013. They had three children, Bob, Doug, and Sue, and moved to various cities, ending up in Dallas in 1967, where they lived the rest of their lives, and where she finally earned her degree. Elaine was the tiny lady, but always in charge. She was lively, energetic, and friendly, and had a contagious laugh. She was passionate about her faith and Schreiber Methodist Church, where she made many life long friends she loved dearly. Elaine devoted her life to helping others, and fiercely loved her family. She will be forever in our hearts. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Bob Dry, parents and her brother, Oley Hedrick, Jr. Elaine is survived by her children Bob Dry, Jr. (DeAnn), Doug Dry (Connie), and Sue Ellen Dry Kay (Ken); eight grandchildren, Bob Dry, III (Vanessa), Ryan Dry (Tracey), Dr. Julie Dry, Angie Dry Francis (Matt), Joe Dry, Kelly Kay Vidrine (Quinn), Scott Kay, and Rachel Kay White (Drew); and her twelve great-grandchildren, Victoria, Taylor, Violet, Dylan, Elaine, Dalton, Payne, Matthew, Hailey, Hudson, Dexter, and Elaine, as well as her sister Elinor Caldwell, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Rd in Plano, TX at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or to The Myositis Association. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 8:30a.m. to 9:30a.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
