Elaine Krist Haines' Obituary
HAINES, ELAINE Krist 84, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and life of the party passed away November 21, 2013. Born Dorothy Elaine Krist on March 19, 1929 in Hartford, Connecticut to Joseph P. and Ellen Krist, she grew up in Windsor, CT where her father worked for the New Haven Railroad and she began her life journey. Elaine or “DEK” as she was known to her friends went off to college in Terre Haute, Indiana, graduating from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1950. Upon graduation the journey continued when she joined American Airlines as a stewardess and was assigned to Dallas in October of 1950. Having minored in Spanish in college, Elaine flew DC6’s mostly to Mexico City serving special passengers such as Indira Ghandi, John Foster Dulles and Nat King Cole, to name a few. Her assignment in Dallas led to her meeting the love of her life, Ed Haines, whom she met at the Highland Park pool. Her flying days with American ended when they married in 1953 and they traveled life together for 40 years before his death in 1993. Together they raised three children, “three under three” as Mom always reminded us, with Elaine serving as scout leader, head of PTA’s, devoted mother and devout Catholic at St. Thomas Aquinas and Christ the King. Once her children were off to college, Elaine embarked on a new journey selling residential real estate in Dallas to hundreds of families, all of whom were loved by Elaine and in turn often thought of her as a second mom. Her real estate career spanned three decades selling some of the finest homes in Dallas. Throughout the years, Elaine remained loyal to American Airlines as an active member of the Dallas Kiwi Club and serving as a living piece of history as a docent at the C.R. Smith Museum at American Airlines. Her later years were enjoyed traveling to every corner of the globe but always happily returning home to Dallas where she loved being “Honey” to her five grandchildren whom she adored. For Elaine, her earthly journey has come to an end and we are saddened, but what a great trip her life has been. Missing her vibrant spirit, infectious laugh and loving heart, Elaine is survived by her brother, Joe “Buddy” Krist and his wife, Frost of Hebron, CT; son, Edward T. Haines, Jr. and his wife, Cumalee and their children, Terrell, David and Mary Pat; her devoted daughter Pat Haines, son Michael K. Haines and his wife Lisa and their children Katie and Lauren, all of Dallas, along with her nieces Pam, Debby, Abby and their families. She loved them all dearly. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 25, 2013 with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75225. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 4347 W. Northwest Hwy., Suite 120-214, Dallas, TX 75220 or Scottish Rite Hospital, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX 75219.
