Elaine Ann ( Sickrey ) Mattingly's Obituary
Elaine Ann (Sickrey) Mattingly, 87, of Carrollton, Texas, passed peacefully on Friday morning, February 20, 2026, holding her son Eric Mattingly’s hand. Just days before, she was surrounded by all her children and grandchildren, along with her beloved pastors, a final moment surrounded by love, family, and faith.
Elaine was born on October 9, 1938, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She later married Ralph Dean Mattingly and together they built a life rooted in commitment, family, and faith.
Elaine began her professional life as a high school French teacher. She was deeply respected by her students, colleagues, and administrators for both her intellect and her integrity. Teaching was more than her profession; it was an extension of her heart for guiding and shaping young lives. After the birth of her son Eric in 1969, she devoted herself fully to her family. From that time forward, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and later grandmother. Her love for her family was steady, sacrificial, and unwavering.
Her faith in Jesus Christ was the true center of her life. It shaped her decisions, sustained her through hardship, and flowed naturally into her conversations with others. Elaine never hesitated to speak about her love for the Lord or to encourage others to seek Him wholeheartedly. She believed deeply that no one ever loses by giving their life fully to Christ, that in Him, one gains everything.
She was passionate about extending forgiveness, speaking life-giving words, and loving those who felt overlooked or wounded. She often reminded others that while circumstances and people change, God remains faithful. Even in her most difficult seasons, she clung to His promises and testified that He never failed her. If she could leave one message behind, it would be to seek the Lord with your whole heart, to let your light shine for others, and to share Christ’s love and forgiveness freely.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Mattingly; her sisters, Lillian, Florence, and Leatrice Sickrey; and her brother, William Sickrey.
She is survived by her son, Eric Mattingly and his wife, Evelin; her daughter, Julie Leuzinger; and her cherished grandchildren, Mooriann, Kailer, Erica, Cordelia, and Christopher. Each of them was a source of immense pride and joy in her life.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Cemetery.
Elaine’s legacy is one of steadfast faith, devoted motherhood, and a life lived with an eternal perspective. Her prayer was that all who knew her would come to understand the depth of God’s love and experience the hope found only in Him.
