Eldon Emmett Byrum's Obituary
Eldon Emmett “Ed” Byrum, aged 99, passed away on June 21, 2024. He was a beloved
father, husband and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ed was born to John M. Bryum and Minnie F. (Roberson) Byrum on August 12, 1924 in
Watts, Oklahoma, where he spent his formative years. He went on to attend Westville
High School in Westville, OK and later began his career as a sales manager and recruiter
for Globe Life Insurance in Oklahoma City. In 1964, he joined Varo, Inc in Garland, TX
where he was a traveling quality mechanical engineer of military aircraft equipment. He
retired from Varo in 1986.
After retiring, Ed became a lay minister. Chaplain, and Bible teacher serving assisted
living and nursing homes in the North Texas region including Castle Manor, Autumn
Leaves, Mercer Place, and Abba Care where he became a resident. He also led
benevolence ministries at Trinity Temple in Dallas and Southside Assembly of God in
Garland. He was known for his Bible-based preaching and music ministry. Reflecting on
his career in ministry, Ed said, “God has been good to me. I thank him and praise him for
allowing me to be a part of his Kingdom.”
Ed is survived by his loving wife Alline (Dove) Byrum and his daughter Sherri Benson
and his son-in-law C. R. (Red) Benson of Wylie, TX. He is also survived by his stepsons,
Randy Bostain of Groesbeck, TX, James Bostain of Fultondale, AL and Larry Dove of
Flower Mound, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 brothers and sisters,
his children Eldon “Deon” Byrum of Locust Grove, OK, Dianna Allred of Fort Worth, TX
and Larry Byrum of Trinity, TX, Ed also wished to honor the memory of his former wife,
Melba (McCreary) Byrum, who preceded him in death.
Ed is also survived by his grandchildren, Dean “Dino” Byrum, Donny Byrum, Shelly
Fuentes, Laramie Byrum, Jeremy Byrum, Brandy Phipps and Amber Benson and many
great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
grandchildren Mindy Sutterfield and Misty Byrum.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. and a funeral service
will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Restland in 13005 Greenville Avenue,
Dallas, TX. Interment to follow at the Garden of the Gospels at Restland.
