Eleanor Ann Turney's Obituary
TURNEY, ELEANOR ANN Born Sept 19, 1922 in Dallas, TX to Joseph A. and Lola E. Loyd and passed away at home on July 26, 2012 of leukemia. Beloved mother and cherished friend, Ann attended Robert E. Lee ES, J.L. Long Jr. HS, and Woodrow Wilson HS in Dallas, and graduated from UT Austin in 1944 with a degree in jounalism. Ann worked briefly for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times on the society pages. She married the love of her life, Bill B. Turney, Sept 2, 1950 in Dallas and devoted herself to her family. Ann and Bill were fortunate enough to travel extensively through his business ties, enjoying not only overseas tours, but destinations throughout the US. She had a special fondness for the Texas Coast. Ann was a tireless volunteer for many charities and organizations including the American Cancer Society, N.W. Harllee ES, and Gaston Episcopal Hospital, and was a docent at Old City Park for 20 years. She was a long-time member of Alpha Phi sorority, Bee & Thistle Garden Club, and Highland Park United Methodist Church. Even though tragically losing her parents as a child, Ann was lovingly surrounded by her extended family and numerous friends, who will always remember her for her kindness, grace, and eagerness to serve. Ann is survived by daughters, Paula Philipps, Napa, CA; Phyllis Wainner, Dallas, TX, and Patty Ellert and husband Leigh, Carrollton, TX; grandchildren, Scott Wainner, Los Altos, CA, and Lauren Philipps, Nashville, TN. A memorial service will be held 1:30pm, Monday, July 30th in Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Interment and visitation will be held at 12pm prior to the service at Restland Memorial Park
