Elisabeth Kugel Bennett (1942 – 2025)
Elisabeth Bennett beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at CC Young on December 24, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 19, 1942, in Brenham, Texas and was married to Paul Bennett October 31, 2010, with whom she built a life filled with love, laughter, and community spirit.
After graduation from Brenham High School, Brenham, TX, in 1960, Elisabeth went to Concordia Austin, TX and then to Concordia Seward, Nebraska earning education degrees for teaching. Later Elisabeth earned a Master's Degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Elisabeth was a dedicated teacher at Ponca City, Oklahoma for 3 years and for 37 years at the Lutheran school co-located with Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, TX. She had a passion for U.S. and Texas history, singing in the choir as well was a devout follower of Christ. Elisabeth was held in high esteem and loved by her students, parents, Clergy, faculty and parishioners.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul Karl Kugel and his wife Audrey Irene Jones Kugel. In addition, Elisabeth had two older sisters, Paula Marie Kugel (1932-1936) and Helen Kugel Brewton (1934 – 1997). Helen was very special to Elisabeth, and she shared fond memories of Helen frequently.
Elisabeth is survived by her devoted husband of 15 years, Paul Bennett; her son, Scott Behrend, his wife Cyndi Behrend, three grandchildren, Britton, Zachary and Eliot. In addition, her niece Jenny Hrbacek, her husband Dean Hrbacek and their children Bradley, Byron and Amanda, along with her nephew David Brewton, his wife Dawn Brewton and their children Sarah and Dakota.
A celebration of Elisabeth's life will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, TX on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. Elisabeth would like for those wishing to make a donation that it be made to the Zion Lutheran School, a cause close to Elisabeth's heart.
