Elizabeth Jean "Beth" Wilson Magness' Obituary
Elizabeth Jean Wilson Magness was born June 22, 1983 and transitioned to heaven, March 15, 2015. Beth married Michael Magness June 11, 2005. Their two sons Derek (4) and Brendan (2) were the delight of her life. In addition to her husband and sons, Beth is survived by her parents, Sam and Barbara Wilson; her brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Christin Wilson; her sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Daniel Lairmore; her grandmothers, Patricia Green and Winona Wilson; her great-grandmother, Doris Cooper; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Beth was a child of breathtaking intelligence who learned to read at age 3, devoured chapter books before kindergarten and was part of the RISD REACH program in elementary school. She followed a perfect score on the PSAT with a perfect score on the SAT and casually remarked that “it was easy.” Beth graduated in the top 10 at Berkner High School in 2001 as a National Merit Scholar. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University as a University Scholar with a concentration in mathematics and earned a Masters in math from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Beth earned her Gold Award in Girl Scouts and was a member of an award winning Odyssey of the Mind/Destination Imagination team from second grade to her senior year. Beth played cello beautifully in the Berkner and Baylor orchestras, the Shawnee Community Orchestra, and in church music programs. She and Michael were avid game players with their friends: board games, mystery evenings with storylines composed by Beth, and games in IFGS chapters in Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Texas. Beth made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at an early age, so we are confident she was warmly greeted in heaven by her grandfathers: Walter Green and George Wilson. We pray for both justice and mercy for the intruder who snatched her life from us. “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalm 34:18. The visitation for Beth will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for Beth will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 20, 2015 The Heights Baptist Church. Interment wil take place in Okemah, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Beth’s honor to Baylor University for the Mathematics Excellence Fund, at One Bear Place, #97026, Waco, Texas 76798.
