Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Elizabeth (Betty) Knox Shaw, 98, passed peacefully on May 30, 2023 with family by her side. Heaven has gained a feisty, redheaded angel!
Elizabeth Robinson Knox was born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 18, 1924 to Samuel and Jessie (Mc Pherson) Knox. She immigrated to the United States in 1929. The Knox family made their home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Betty graduated from Kensington High School in 1943. She worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a comptometer operator after high school. In 1946 she met Jack Shaw at a Catholic Church dance. They fell madly in love and married August 30, 1947. After having three children, Betty and Jack moved to Dallas, Texas in 1955. In 1962, with four children, the family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Then, moved back to Farmers Branch, Texas in 1968.
Betty was a loving, inspiring mother and the consummate home maker. She was active in the community as a Jaycee-ette, a school room mother and PTA president/volunteer. She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch where she remained involved in Sunday school and women’s groups. Betty was an alumnae initiate of Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity International and an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She worked at Horchow and as a fragrance model at Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, and Dillard’s. Betty was also an extra in the TV show, Dallas. Betty felt her greatest achievement, besides her family, was becoming a citizen of the United States in 1991! She loved that she could finally vote!
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 41 years, Jack Shaw; son, John Shaw; sister, Isabelle Marston; brother, Robert Knox; granddaughter, Stephanie Henkel; son-in-law, Glenn Shaheen. She is survived by Nancy Shaheen, daughter; Bob Shaw (Sally), son; Maureen Nelson (Jay), daughter; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends! She loved people and got her energy from them! She had a wonderful sense of humor and was happiest when her family was together sharing memories and laughing! Mom had an unbelievable memory right up to her passing. For that we feel blessed!
